The Irish Brigade fought several major engagements under the command of General Thomas F. Meagher including: Second Manassas, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg. This image, painted by artist Mort Kunstler, shows the brigade at the Battle of Antietam. A major turning point, Union victory at Antietam ended Confederate General Robert E. Lee's first northern invasion.
