This lithograph depicts the 54th Massachusetts Colored Regiment's heroic assault on Fort Wagner, S.C. and the fatal wounding of its commander, Col. Robert G. Shaw on July 18, 1863. The courage and determination shown by black troops at Fort Wagner and other battles helped challenge racial stereotypes and led to a large increase in the number of black enlistments at a time when white enlistment was waning.
This t-shirt is a tagless Hanes 100% cotton.
