This metal, 4" miniature cannon is a replica of the larger Whitworth Cannon used during the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862. This cannon was designed by Sir Joseph Whitworth in England. This steel breechloader could fire a 12 pound "Bolt" almost five miles. Robert E. Lee's army employed 2 Whitworth cannons at Sharpsburg. This miniature cannon is also a pencil sharpener! |
